FILM DIRECTOR & WRITER

FILM DIRECTOR
Your job is to direct the film. You are responsible for approving the actors, creating the overall visual of the film, and overseeing all aspects of the film from pre to post-production. You will have to attend every meeting with actors and producers, from casting to editing.
  • Director: film director is a person who directs the making of a film. Generally, a film director controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects, and visualizes the script while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of that vision. The director has a key role in choosing the cast members, production design, and the creative aspects of filmmaking.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
You are responsible for the administrative aspects of the Director position. You make sure that all crew and actors have a call sheet, manage the production schedule, making sure the set is up to the standards of what the Director wants.

  • Assistant Director: The role of an assistant director on a film includes tracking daily progress against the filming production schedule, arranging logistics, preparing daily call sheets, checking cast and crew, and maintaining order on the set.

WRITER
You are the creator of the story line for the film. You write amend the script. If the Director requests changes to the script, it is your responsibility to make said changes.
FYI: 1 page of a script = 1 minute of film time. Meaning, 5 pages = a 5 minute short film. The key to making this work more effectively is to:
  • Create a limited number of characters.
  • Create a story that requires a limited amount of props and locations.
  • Outlining your story before writing makes writing the script easier.
